Lost Wax Cast Bronze

The first step in the lost wax casting process is to create a mold of the original artwork.  Molten wax is then poured into the mold forming layers of wax in the exact form of the original casting.  The wax is pulled from the mold and details are added by a skilled artisan.

Next, a ceramic mold is created, then placed in a kiln and fired.  The shell is baked and the wax is melted or "lost" from the shell creating a hollow ceramic mold, thus the term "Lost Wax". Immediately after removing the ceramic mold from the kiln, molten bronze at a temperature of 2100° Fahrenheit is poured into the shell.

After the casting has cooled several hours, the shell is carefully broken away leaving the unfinished bronze.  Details are added and the sculpture is polished and hand finished by skilled artists.
